Back in 2004 I went to Wal-Mart and bought one of those 12V air pumps you carry around in your car for emergencies. I took it apart, removing the plastic outer shell and taping a small block of wood to it to hold onto, and to attach the switch to. This small air pump has served my needs all these years and still works fine. I removed it from the R1150R when I traded it in and have delayed getting an alternate power connector for the new bike.

Last week I found a very inexpensive 12V SAE power connector on EBay from a small outfit called Bohemian Biker and ordered it. It only cost $1.50 and another $1.39 for shipping. Today I got out in the garage and soldered it onto the wires from the air pump and now I’m ready for a flat tire emergency on the road, should that occur.

The little connector came with two wires attached and shrink tubing included for sealing after the connection is made. The air pump wires can be connected to power on either side so I didn’t have to worry about that. I just soldered the two on and sealed the connections with the shrink tubing. Now I’ll wrap the two wires together with some electrical tape and keep the little pump in my bags when I go out riding. It will just plug into the SAE connector already installed on the bike and then I operate it with the switch. I already have a tire repair kit handy, and the tires are tubeless, so not so many worries on the road.
